Breeders’ Cup Runner Limousine Liberal Best in Churchill Downs Stakes
The 2018 Breeders’ Cup Championships are at Churchill Downs, and 6-year-old Limousine Liberal already has a leg up. Since finishing 4th in the Twinspires.com Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita, Limousine Liberal has been nothing but a money-maker. She’s finished in the money in nine straight races with five wins, including Saturday’s Churchill Downs Stakes (G2).
The victory was her second-straight in that race, and for the second-straight year, it came on a wet and sloppy surface. In fact, all five of Limousine Liberal’s wins over the past year have been at Churchill Downs and he is now 6-1 in eight starts at Churchill Downs.
That may be something to keep in mind when Limousine Liberal runs in Breeders’ Cup prep races and returns for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs in November.
With Jose Ortiz up for trainer Ben Colebrook, Limousine Liberal won the $500,000 Churchill Downs Stakes by a head over fast-closing Warrior’s Club. She covered 7 furlongs in 1:22.72. Another head back was Awesome Slew, who finished 2nd in last year’s race. Awesome Slew was also 3rd in last year’s Las Vegas Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar.
Imperial Hint, runner-up in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint, finished 6th as the 7-5 race favorite in the Churchill Downs Stakes.
Limousine Liberal, who has also won the Aristides Stakes (G3) and two other added-money races under the Twin Spires, paid $10.80, $5.40, and $3.40. Warrior’s Club returned $15.80 and $6.80, and Awesome Slew paid $3.20. The $2 exacta, 7-8, returned $252.60.
Limousine Liberal picked up $297,600 in winning the Churchill Downs Stakes, and has now earned $1,333,281 with a record of 8-6-3 in 21 starts.
