A.P. Indian Headed To Odgen Phoenix Instead

Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes preview
A.P. Indian has redirected himself to the Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes this weekend at Keeneland

Looking out over a ravaged, muddy track at the Vosburgh Stakes, trainer Arnaud Delacour made a last minute decision to push A.P. Indian’s final preparations to this coming weekend. Instead, the six-year old sprinter will look to the Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes with plans of pursuing the Breeders’ Cup Twinspires Sprint in a month’s time. He’s already been installed as the favorite for the race.

Both the Vosburgh and the Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes are stops on the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series so A.P. Indian is still assured a free spot in the BC Sprint should he emerge triumphant. Slotted as a 4/5 favorite with a convincing five-race winning streak intact through this season, there isn’t much top flight competition in this race to concern anyone interested in investing in A.P. Indian.

The highest rated challenger amongst the field is Alsvid, who could be a promising place bet at 6/1. He was last out finishing third at the Bing Crosby Stakes, a result he achieved at the Hot Springs Stakes and an allowance as well. He won the Arstrides back in June while also placing second at the Twin Spires Turf Sprint as well. That’s a record of 1-1-3 over the 2016 campaign.

Ahead of him on the Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes betting board are a pair of horses that might as well be longshots. Ami’s Flatter is a 9/2 second choice who was 5th at the Play The King. Limousine Liberal has 5/1 odds but came 7th at the Forego not too long ago. A.P. Indian won the Forego convincingly.

The only horse heading in to this race with a win is W.B. Smudge, and that victory came at an allowance. He is 12/1 and could be the only worthy take to show unless you prefer to hedge Alsvid slightly more. Rounding out the Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes field are The Great War and Cinco Charlie.

The Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes take place at Keeneland this Saturday.
