Santa Anita Weekly Notebook April 14-16

Santa Anita Racing Notebook and Horses of Interest

Each week we follow the races and provide insight into selected races and horses of interest. The weekly notebook is another addition to our reports to assist horsemen and those who wager on the races with additional insight and analysis.

APRIL 14th

Race 3 DAHLIA AZUL (NEGATIVE) – Received a nice easy trip on the backside facing a bad group, but when the real running began, just not much to offer. The winner had got away up front, but this one needed to stay on level terms with the second place finisher and couldn’t. Looking to beat next time out.

Race 4 SHE’S A WARRIOR (POSITIVE) - Our top pick at 7-1, raced to the lead which was a clear sign of the fitness Stevens knew he had under him, and when the 4-5 and 6-5 favorites came to him at the top of the lane, he shot away, clearly a horse on the improve, in good health and form.

APRIL 15th

Race 2 CHAMPAGNE CHARLEY (POSITIVE) – Finished third, but well within himself, not asked too much late by Stevens by doing well, nice action late while also galloping out well. Will be sent longer than this mile assignment next time out.

Race 8 WHISKEY GINGER (NEGATIVE) - Did make up a ton of ground which was impressive, problem is, was facing nothing, and the running line will make him look like a machine, when the reality was, he was passing bad horses, even doing so on his wrong lead.

APRIL 16th

Race 6 KID CHARMING (POSITIVE) – Our top pick got bet down to 9-2, got up in final jump, winning at 1 ⅛ in only his second start, doing so while not switching leads before also galloping out nicely. Appears to have ability with plenty of room to move forward.
