The weekend of September 3rd and 4th will mark the third and final weekend of live racing at Suffolk Downs for their 2016 racing season. The highlight of the final weekend will be the $75,000 Steve Pini Memorial Stakes, which will be part of an 11-race card on Saturday, September 3rd.
The 1 1/16-mile turf Steve Pini Memorial Stakes is for mares and fillies and will feature 11 of the top trainers in the industry such as Mark Casse, Christophe Clement, and Bill Mott. Steve Pini was a third-generation employee and track superintendent at Suffolk Downs who passed away last year. A dedication will take place in the paddock prior to the start of Saturday’s racing.
Also featured that weekend will be three stakes restricted to in-state foaled horses: the Thomas F. Moran Stakes, the Massachusetts Stallion Stakes, and the John Kirby Stakes. Each comes with a $75,000 purse.
“We are thankful that we have been able to continue the tradition of racing here during this transition phase as we look toward the future development of the property and we look forward to working with the local horsemen and women, the local breeding farms and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to continue racing again next year,” said Suffolk Downs Chief Operating Officer.
Post time for the final weekend of live racing at Suffolk Downs is 12:35 PM EST. Gates will open at 11:00 AM sharp.
