The Turfway Park holiday meet will see a returning featured to their schedule that hasn’t been implemented since 2009, as the track will go back to Wednesday racing and a five-day week. The holiday meet begins today (November 30th). Improved field sizes was a big reason why the changes were implemented.
“Over the last two years, field sizes for the holiday meet have averaged 10.6 horses, and I am confident our director of racing, Tyler Picklesimer, and his staff will be able to maintain similarly solid fields across five days,” said Turfway Park General Manager Chip Bach. “We appreciate the support we’re receiving from horsemen, some who have been with us during this meet for decades. Our barns are full and we’re looking forward to a competitive meet.”
Both parking and admission for the holiday meet at Turfway Park will be free. The first post is scheduled for 6:15 PM local time today and will be the same time every day through Saturday. First post time on Sunday is 3 PM local time. There will be nine races each day, but the track will be closed on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. New Year’s Eve will be the closing day of the holiday meet, but the track will be open the very next day without interruption to usher in the 49th annual winter/spring meet at Turfway Park.
On New Year’s Eve the track will throw a party that will feature live racing and a free concert. There will also be a buffet and an open bar.
